Craig Bellamy Believes Arsene Wenger Should Walk Away

Sky Sports pundit Craig Bellamy believes Arsene Wenger should consider his Gunners position at the end of the season as his reputation is down the line. The Frenchman has struggled to find any motivation in his players over the past few months, and this has seen their season disintegrate with disappointments in the FA Cup, League Cup as well as the Premier League.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ The Debate, Bellamy feels it is time for the 67-year-old to call time on his Gunners career as he could potentially tarnish his reputation at the north London side, he said: “I believe over the last seven years, the loyalty Arsenal have shown him and made it his choice [to leave], they’ve done it.
“I believe at this present moment the last year or two years he should have gone and he should have walked himself. He has done a great job and now one will ever forget the job that he has done for our game. I am concerned at this present moment. His reputation now could be getting damaged and it doesn’t deserve to be.”
Arsenal’s struggles started shortly after a rough festive schedule where they drew multiple games, and they have since been ousted out of the FA Cup in the third round whilst losing the League Cup final to Manchester City last month. To make things, the club find themselves 10 points off the Champions League positions with as many games left to play, and their top-four prospects look more or less over.
The Europa League remains the only competition through which Wenger may possibly motivate his players, given winning it would assure the Gunners of a return to next season’s Champions League. Arsenal are however unlikely to have an easy route as they have to overcome an in-form AC Milan side in the double-legged round of 16 tie this month.
