BELLAMY IMPORTANT TO DALGLISH

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has praised Craig Bellamy by saying that he has been extremely important for the club this season and also in the match against Chelsea. Craig Bellamy was inspirational in the 2-0 win over Chelsea in the Carling cup quarter finals. He played the match despite the grief over the death of his idol Gary Speed. His outstanding performances helped Liverpool to get into the semifinals of a cup competition. Now that they are in the semifinals, Liverpool will surely be looking at winning the competition.

Craig Bellamy was a major doubt for the match against Chelsea, as it was just 48 hours after the death of Wales manager Gary Speed. The former Bolton midfielder had decided to end his life and it had brought a major grief throughout the football world. Due to the fact that Gary Speed played a great role in mentoring Craig Bellamy, many expected that the Cardiff man will not be involved in the match against Chelsea. However, not only did Craig Bellamy play in the match, but he was also one of the best players on the pitch as well. He provided the assists for both the Liverpool goals, which were scored by Maxi Rodriguez and Martin Kelly.

"We know he's a fantastic footballer and he had a hugely disappointing day on Sunday, when Speedy, who he regarded as a mentor, passed away. For someone to come back and play like that – for any of the players who played at the weekend – it speaks volumes for him," Dalglish said.

Liverpool's opportunity to play in the final will certainly push them towards victory in the semifinals. This will be the first opportunity for Kenny Dalglish to lift the trophy after his return to Anfield, although he would rather be lifting the Premier League trophy.
