Andros Townsend makes bold claim about former teammate Gareth Bale

Andros Townsend believes his former Tottenham Hotspur teammate Gareth Bale would be wishing that he was playing for Spurs at the current point of time. The Wales international has been out-of-favour under Zinedine Zidane and he was restricted to just 13 appearances in the Champions League and La Liga combined last term.

He still has two years remaining on his contract and reports claim that he could honour the remainder of the deal instead of parting ways with the club. This has already led to criticism from plenty of Los Blancos fans and Townsend, who played with Bale at Spurs, believes the forward would wish he had the freedom of playing for the north London side.
“I think if anything Bale wants to go back to Spurs. The memories of Spurs, his happiness… he was the main man, he was loved. He was at the top of his game. So, if anything I think it would work the other way. He would be like, ‘I wish I was at Spurs now and had the freedom to do whatever I want, to express myself and not worry about where I am now where I get scrutinised for playing golf’”, He told TalkSPORT.
Bale was fancied to make the move to the Chinese Super League with Jiangsu Suning last summer after the club agreed to meet his staggering £600,000-a-week wages. However, Los Blancos asked for a transfer fee at the last minute and that scuppered and meant that the Welshman stayed put with the Spanish champions.
He has since come under controversy with the ‘Wales. Golf. Real Madrid order’ celebration after his country qualified for the Euros and things appear grave at the moment with his career going nowhere with the lack of game time. It has been claimed that Los Blancos could offload him this summer by subsidising his wages, but the final decision would still lie on Bale.
