Pundits Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Alan Hansen mocked Bellamy on last weekend’s MOTD when Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini took the ball from him in a sublime piece of skill. They laughed and joked about wanting to repeat the clip and said they were delighted it happened against Bellamy, 30.

But the incident has led to at least one outraged viewer complaining to the Beeb about its stars’ “bias and lack of professionalism”. A source said: “Craig thinks he is being victimised.
